I joined the fire service for a greater sense of purpose in life, to belong to something impactful, and, more importantly, to help those in need when they are most vulnerable.

Throughout my career (and like many first responders), I have responded to some of the most tragic and unimaginable calls for help.

You are exposed to vicarious trauma each day but push on to continue to serve for the greater good. I personally felt I was protected by an unseen coat of armor that could shield me from the most horrific scenes and tragic experiences.
