Statistics reveal that over 75% of EMTs and Paramedics have responded to domestic violence situations during their career, with the vast majority reporting little to no formal training on the subject. This course aims to equip Fire & EMS personnel with a comprehensive understanding of domestic violence dynamics and effective response strategies, identify affected individuals, and learn crucial skills such as effective communication, ensuring scene safety, recognizing signs and symptoms of strangulation, and delivering trauma-informed care to victims. The course will also provide valuable national and local domestic violence resources and reference material.
